[ There’s two boxes that arrive on Rei’s doorstep. The smaller one has a silver necklace inside, the pendant a camera with a deep blue stone set in place of the viewfinder.

The other is much larger, and a lot less conventional: a silver-blue pistol with a black grip and intricate filigree along the barrel. The note tucked into the larger box is much less formal than the gifts themselves.

The package is simply signed with his name. Everything he has to say that goes along with these gifts doesn't lend itself well to paper. ]

[She's touched. Absolutely touched. She did not expect any sort of gift like this. The necklace goes on right away, and the gun...

That, she tucks away to be used for later. She'll need to get the bullets for both of them. While there's a lot of things she can say, she sends a simple text:]

Thank you.

[ The reply comes back almost immediately. ]

That's my line. That present you left was mighty sweet. ]

[ A pause, then- ]

Hope the gun wasn't too much.

[She can feel her smile widen at his reply. Oh Jesse.]

I hoped you'd like it.

And no, it isn't too much. It's something I need. It'll go perfectly with my other weapons.

I'm saving the chocolate, but I put the jacket on right away. Fits like a glove.

And good. We can practice with it if you want at the range out back, whenever it thaws.

[ 'The range' being that little set of targets and scarecrows he has on his property, now covered by snow. ]

Oh, wonderful! I wasn't sure it'd fit.

And perfect. I'll see about getting bullets. Speaking of-how's your supply?

[It's kind of a cute range, if it wasn't for the bullet holes.]

Just got a new batch actually. It was my first time trying those baskets out and I'm kind of surprised nothing went wrong. No fancy car keys, but I got what I needed.

Maybe I should ask for a James Bond car and see what happens.

Oh good, I'm glad you got what you wanted.

And I did not ask for a fancy car.

But you can. Maybe you'll get one with machine guns or some other weapon I haven't thought about. Maybe a hover car even?

You're giving me a hell of a lot of ideas right now. But if I end up getting a souped-up hover car, then you got to promise to take it for a spin.

Jesse, if you get a souped up hover-car, we're going more then a spin.

We're going to put it through its paces.

[ He grins, eyes crinkling at the corners as he reads that message over a couple of times. Now that was a good answer. ]

Well I for one am dying to know what kind of paces you've got in mind. Better start thinking of ways to convince whatever the hell gives us those baskets to get me this car.

The fastest, biggest paces of course. I've no idea what we should put in the basket though for a souped up hover car though.

[She's not sure how she'll do it but. She wants to now, if only to make Jesse laugh hysterically while she's driving.]

Guess we'll just have to try a few different things. If we don't get a hover car, might get something else that's worth the trouble.

Could we get machine guns? Those sound like a good backup.

[She's teasing mostly.]

[ Careful Rei, because he's going to take that literally. ]

Turns out that Italian directors got into westerns way back in the day. They filmed em in Italy, in Italian, then brought em stateside later. That's the real simple version, but I can tell you more when we actually sit down to watch one.

I think if we got a choice then we should always make it a date thing. Especially if it means there's carbs involved.
